After ten days of intense learning and knowledge transfer, we presented an update on the progress of the Spekboom project. The Centre for Proteomics and Genomics Research (CPGR) hosted us at their brand-new facilities in Woodstock, Cape Town. Dr Renée Prins gave a brief project overview, followed by Drs Roland Wouters and Burkhard Steuernagel elaborating on the laboratory work and bioinformatics analysis, respectively. The next step on the project timeline is for Shannon Derman (CenGen) to visit them in the UK where they will be continuing with the genome assembly.
We have been so privileged to host our UK collaborators and look forward to continue learning from them through Shannon’s visit.
