CenGen is pleased to announce the appointment of Elsabet Wessels as our Acting Chief Scientist, marking an exciting new chapter for the organisation.
Elsabet has been an integral part of the CenGen team since 2011, joining after completing her Master’s degree in Genetics at Stellenbosch University. Over the past 15 years, she has played a leading role in advancing molecular breeding in South Africa, supporting major wheat breeding programmes through the application of marker-assisted selection and genomics.
Beyond her scientific expertise, Elsabet is known for her collaborative leadership, meticulous approach to laboratory operations, and passion for finding innovative and efficient solutions. Her broad knowledge and commitment to excellence have made her an invaluable member of the CenGen team.
As CenGen builds on the remarkable legacy of our founder, Renée Prins, we are confident that Elsabet’s experience, dedication, and vision will continue to strengthen our scientific leadership and support our mission of delivering world-class genomics solutions for agriculture.
