Transferring skills and pathogens all in one sitting

Knowledge and skills transfer is something we value greatly at CenGen. We have an internal drive to ensure that no skill, responsibility or process is mastered by only one staff member at the time in order to ensure sustainability and progress.

Debbie Snyman, being the first staff member to be employed at CenGen in 2005, has invaluable experience that stretches beyond molecular genetics. She also is an excellent teacher. Here she is giving pointers to Benny Leriba on pathogen isolation and culturing. Benny, a SACTA intern that joined CenGen in September 2020, is eager to learn and is making good progress in becoming an independent laboratory technician here at CenGen.

“Learning while doing” is the best way to gain experience in a laboratory and we are privileged to be able to offer that to our staff.
