The CenGen team recently hosted three honours students from Stellenbosch University’s (SU) Department of Genetics. The three ladies (pictured from left to right: Keshia Holster, Sasha-Leigh Maart and Bianca Kruger) visited the lab as part of their practical training for a course module in plant breeding.
CenGen shared with them the exciting research and applied work performed at the laboratory on various important plant and pathogen species. The students also gained some insight into what is required of a researcher to be an asset to the scientific community.
The town of Worcester already houses the Ukwanda Rural Clinical School campus of SU. Through Renée’s official affiliation with the Department of Genetics at SU since July 2018 and visits from students such as these, SU is expanding its activities in the Breede River Valley, an important agri-region of the Western Cape.
CenGen wishes the students all the best with their studies and future careers as scientists!
